What’s For Dinner?

Posted on November 5, 2014 by Girl October

Top of the morning, G.O. readers!

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to prepare for my holiday dinner.  I know that I’ll have my staples such as dressing and macaroni.  I’ll also likely prepare my annual Thanksgiving carrot cake; but sometimes I have an urge to try something different.

A few weeks ago, I got my copy of David Venable’s latest cookbook, and I’ve decided I’m going to try one of his mac and cheese recipes instead of my usual Patti LaBelle mac, (both involve a lot of delicious cheeses–just different kinds).  So now I’m in search of a new side dish or dessert that I can make and try out on my family in addition to the staples.  I know I’ll also be trying this dressing recipe from divascancook.com (it’s similar to mine, but more in depth):  http://divascancook.com/homemade-southern-cornbread-dressing-recipe-soul-food-style/

I may also purchase another Southern Living Christmas cookbook.  They produce these annually.  I get mine for $10 at Dillard’s, (part of the proceeds go to Ronald McDonald house).  In case I haven’t mentioned this in past blog entries, I am obsessed with cookbooks!  I’m constantly in search of a new recipe that melds delicious and easy seamlessly into one fabulous meal.  One of the problems of having multiple cookbooks though, is they give me the urge to want to try out too many new recipes–which can get me in trouble when I commit to making more dishes than my stamina can handle.  In theory, making six or seven dishes sounds awesome; but in reality–not so much.

Luckily, I don’t have to worry about meats because my mom and my mother-in-law make those.  Right now I’m still too intimidated to try a ham or hen on my own (don’t like turkey–unless it’s a roast).  My mother-in-law actually makes enough food for an army and I really don’t have to cook anything at all, but I still like having some food of my own that I can access easily, (mainly mac and dressing–I’d eat those alone, easily).

So….if you do celebrate Thanksgiving, what’s going to be on your menu this year?  Stay tuned as my menu list unfolds.  More to come.  Everyone have a Wonderful Wednesday!
