Greetings G.O. Readers!
Top of the morning, to you!
You know, sometimes the pressure of having something poignant to say, on every post, can get overwhelming; of course, this blog isn’t just about poignant topics, (I also talk about shopping, food, holidays, and other such fare); but because I wanted the main focus of this blog, to be on becoming, and showing up as the highest version of ourselves possible, that puts a certain amount of pressure on me to come up with content, that points you all in that direction; but I started thinking, maybe it’s okay to not always aim for perfection.
Sometimes, you just have to show up. When you’re feeling like crap mentally or physically, it’s hard to go after the biggest goal. You can easily get overwhelmed. Sometimes you just have to start with the absolute minimum. Sometimes, you have those days where getting out of bed, just feels like too much. During those times, taking the tiniest step can be the most effective thing to do.
Maybe you can’t fathom the thought of getting up and looking for a job, or doing laundry, or going to the grocery store, or writing a blog post, or exercising, or praying, or, yadda, yadda, yadda…but perhaps you can, simply sit up in bed. Just start there. Just sit up. That’s progress; because before, you were just lying down. Now, at least you’re upright. Then maybe you can swing your legs over the side of the bed, with your feet dangling a few inches above the floor–and you sit there for five or ten minutes. That’s a bit more progress.
Your next step might be to brush your teeth, or to simply make your way out of the bedroom and into the living room. The point is, what is a small, incremental step you can take right now, to get yourself a little further from where you started? Or to get you a smidgen closer to where you’d like to go?
In my case, I’ve found that sometimes I have to start by opening Blogger. I still may not have any ideas flowing, but at least I sat down in front of the computer and showed up. Sometimes if I can just crank out a title, the first line of the post will come to me. Sometimes I end up writing material that is pretty crappy, in my opinion, but it’s better than the curser blinking on the blank, empty, white screen. Usually with a little editing, crappy material becomes a little less crappy; and maybe, by the second or third round of editing, the writing actually transforms into something pretty darned good, (although of course, that’s a matter of opinion). But the point is, do something. Even a small thing.
Small things add up. Having a dime, doesn’t seem like much, but having ten of those bad boys, becomes a buck; and one-hundred of them is $10.00, and so on. The idea I’m attempting to bring to the forefront here, is to never under estimate the power of simply showing up. If you can show up, with “perfectionist mode” cut off, you’d be surprised at how making small moves, over time, can sometimes, turn into some pretty fantastic endeavors. So always aim to at least show up for each day. Even if it’s in your PJ’s and bunny slippers. Start from there. Go ahead. Surprise yourself.
That’s all for now.
Have a Magnificent Monday, people!
