The Excitement of Fall

Okay, I know it can’t just be me.  There’s just something about fall time that speaks to my spirit.  Even though there’s a calm, laid back nature to the season, that fills my heart with hygge, it also possesses a magical vitality.  I don’t know.  There’s just an energy there that makes me want to go out and pick pumpkins or go shopping for boots, or visit every bookstore and spend hours on end, and then visit a café or Starbucks, or go for a long, crisp walk in the park, or…

Excuse me, please.

I sort of got on a tangent, there.  I had to come back to earth for a moment (because I really had floated away from you).  Just the thought of autumn starts my mind racing, thinking of all the ways I want to engage with the season.  To me the energy that radiates from fall, (sometimes I like to call it autumn too–so you’ll see me use both), is different from that of summertime.  Summer’s energy feels more hectic or frantic.  For me it says more “go, go, go!”

Hit the beach.  Have the cookouts.  Try another diet (to show off your body at all the beaches you hit).  Take more trips.  Come up with ways to keep the kids busy while they’re out of school.  Fun, fun, fun!  Take in the sun!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying those are bad things.  I just like the pace of fall better–the energy, the vibe.  Summer was actually my favorite time of year as a kid.  More daylight.  No school.  More time to play with my friends.  But I became more of an autumn kind of girl in adulthood–not to mention, being a major introvert, and the fact that I no longer wished or needed to play outside made me appreciate the more subtle energy of fall more.

So, in no way is this a summer-bashing post.  Mentioning summer simply serves as a way for me to compare it and fall’s different feels. Summer is awesome in its own way, and is needed in order to even have an appreciation for fall in the first place.

But I’m still glad every year when the stores drop hints that my beloved fall is on the way.  And even though it’ll continue to feel “hell-fire hot” here in Alabama until closer to Halloween, I’m still ecstatic to know that fall is officially only weeks away.

Speaking of the coming weeks…

In the next week or two, I’ll be doing some reviews of the fall decorations that have been put out in the stores so far.  My niece and I have already been to Michael’s and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  We took quite a few pictures, so I’m in the process of getting them off my phone and adding them to the site.

Our trip to Bed, Bath, and Beyond was cut a bit short, so we’ll likely return there this weekend to do more “research.”  More to come on that.  But before I leave you, let me just share this pic of these glass gourds and pumpkins we saw in Bed, Bath, and Beyond:

Can I just say that I love these so much!  I don’t need them at all (Lord knows I have enough decorations–though oddly, not that much fall).  And what makes it so bad, is that I want all of them–whether they match my color scheme or not.  They’re glass.  They’re shiny.  They have curly-cue stems.  They come in pretty colors.  What more could you ask for?  Okay, I’m going to shut up about these for now.  But don’t be surprised if I come back to them when I do my fall décor review.

Okay, before this post is completely done, I just wanted to let you guys see a preview of “The Big Festive Planner: For Heavy Duty Holiday Heads.”  It’ll be available for sale on Amazon this Sunday, September 8th.  It has 150 pages and can help you with all your planning needs for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; and for those of you who aren’t into Halloween, there’s a section for fall planning too.  The cost will be $15.99.

Digital availability will be announced.
